Lawson Students Explore Next Steps for College and Career
Recruiters from more than two dozen colleges and universities recently talked with Lawson State Community College students at LSCC's the annual Career and College Transfer Fair.
The event, held on the Birmingham and Bessemer campuses Feb. 12-13, drew 25 colleges and organizations. Lawson students who participated, including some dual enrollment students, were able to get questions answered on a range of topics.
"This event gives them the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the college recruiters in-state as well as some out-of-state recruiters, and to talk about the admissions process," said Ms. Akilh Haley, coordinator of Career & College Transfer Services. "From transfer admissions to transfer scholarship opportunities, our fair showcases what's possible for those interested in continuing their education after Lawson."
Students talked with a range of representatives, including those from the U.S. Marine Corps, from online degree completion and two-year transfer colleges, and from well-known partners like Miles College, UAB, and University of Alabama.
"Lawson State is an excellent foundation for whatever they want to do next," said Ms. Haley. "Whether that is going to a four-year school or starting a career, the fair is an amazing opportunity for them to explore and to see how they can build on that foundation."
