Lawson State Students Land Thurgood Marshall College Fund Scholarships

MARCH 21
Marshall College Fund Scholarship secured students.

Lawson State Community College is proud to celebrate its ongoing partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), an organization dedicated to supporting students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs) through scholarships, mentorship, and career development opportunities.

Representatives from TMCF recently visited Lawson State’s Birmingham and Bessemer campuses to award four scholarships as part of the TMCF Scholarship Fund Wave 1 kickoff. This initiative underscores the commitment of both organizations to providing students with financial support and access to professional networks that can help shape their futures.

"Partnerships like the one we have with TMCF make a real impact on our students," said Dorian Waluyn, executive director for strategic initiatives and external affairs. "Through scholarships, mentoring, and networking opportunities, our students are gaining the resources they need to excel academically and professionally."

The new scholarships awarded are among the many ways TMCF supports the college.

Lawson State students interested in applying for Fall 2025 funding can do so now at https://www.tmcf.org/students-alumni/scholarships/open-scholarships/.

In addition to scholarship support, TMCF is the sponsoring partner for S.O.A.R., Lawson State’s immersive summer program for high-achieving high school juniors (rising seniors).

This one-week residential experience will welcome 100 students to campus, where they will explore college admissions, financial aid, career pathways, and scholarship resources—all while getting a firsthand look at college life. Click here to apply.
