Lawson State Community College recently honored the achievements and resilience of its students at the annual Honors and Awards Day celebration. With families, faculty, and community partners in attendance, the ceremony recognized academic excellence, leadership, and service across a range of disciplines and programs.
Honors presented included community partnership awards, college transfer scholarships, and distinctions in liberal arts and sciences, college transfer programs, career technical programs, and student services. The program was a vibrant showcase of student potential and institutional pride.
Dr. Eula Todd, Director of Title III and Sponsored Programs, delivered heartfelt remarks celebrating the accomplishments of Lawson students.
"Today we celebrate something truly special - your hard work, endurance, and the incredible strides that you have made on this journey," said Dr. Todd. "Each of you has pushed through challenges and obstacles, and proven that you have what it takes to succeed. Think of your journey as a marathon. You've trained, you've stumbled, but you never gave up."
Echoing that sentiment, Dr. Cynthia T. Anthony, president of the college, encouraged students to take pride in what they've accomplished and to stay focused on what lies ahead.
"This moment is not just about receiving certificates or applause - it's about recognizing your power," Dr. Anthony said. "At Lawson State, we are here to cultivate success through excellence and innovation. You have persevered. You are persistent, and you've been guided to this point - but this is not the end for you."
"Today represents a small reward for the hard work and the sacrificial efforts that you have put forth to achieve your goals," she added.
The ceremony also spotlighted the college's ongoing commitment to community engagement and student support. The presentation of community partnership awards given to students by organizations like the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Bessemer City Office of the Mayor underscored the critical role of collaboration in helping students thrive.
