National Adult Education & Family Literacy Week
The Office of Adult Education at Lawson State Community College proudly celebrated National Adult Education & Family Literacy Week by engaging the community with literacy-focused initiatives.
The week, marked nationally September 16-20, kicked off with the signature Yellow Glasses Campaign, a program sponsored by Dollar General to shine a light on literacy. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of the importance of adult education and family literacy in building stronger communities and providing individuals with the skills needed to succeed in today's economy.
To celebrate, Lawson State's adult education team visited Oxmoor Valley Elementary School, where staff members greeted the students and parents as they arrived at school. They also conducted a book read for the students.
"From GED preparation to ESL classes, Lawson State's adult education department offers resources that can help individuals overcome barriers to learning and achieve their goals," said Charlette White, LSCC director of adult education.
"By interacting with local elementary students and their families, Lawson State is fostering a deeper connection between adult learning and family literacy, promoting education as a lifelong journey," said Ms. White.
Lawson State's adult education leaders will continue to distribute information to local parents about available programs, encouraging community members to take advantage of opportunities to further their education. For more information, contact the Office of Adult Education at 205-929-3499.
