Joshua Thomas
As a music [student] at Lawson State, I had the opportunity to help start the Jazz Band. As a future band director, this gave me an insight of what I'll have to face in the future. One highlight was when the LSCC Jazz Band performed for the WBRC Christmas Morning 'Good Day Christmas' show. I am now at UAB playing trumpet in their Marching Band, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Trumpet Ensemble, and Gospel Choir Band.

Benefits of Choosing a Career in the Music, Arts and Humanities Fields

In Lawson's music program, students learn the fundamentals of music and music education while earning credits in their general core classes. Students have the opportunity to participate in vocal and instrumental ensembles and receive personalized instruction.  Students are given multiple performance opportunities on campus and in the community. Students also are exposed to industry professionals and networking platforms to gain internship and professional development.
