Engineering (All Areas of Concentration)

Engineering is an Area of Concentration that falls under General Studies at varying 4-year colleges. At the two-year level, it should not be confused with declaring a major; rather, it is a program track that is recognized by Alabama Transfers for the specific purpose of transferring to a four-year college. Upon completion of this course of study, students are awarded a 2-year Associate's degree that is transferable. Engineering degrees lead to a multitude of high paying career path options. With an Engineering degree, you can pursue various occupations (after you secure your 4-year degree or higher) that require skills in logic, analysis, problem-solving, and computation. There are different Engineering tracks to include Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Cyber Security, Construction, Chemical, Electrical, Biomedical and more. NOTE: Although one can get employed at the Associate level, most individuals in this field secure the Bachelor's degree and beyond. The more education in this field, the better.

Benefits of Choosing a Career in the Engineering Fields

Choosing to a career pathway in the Engineering field can lead to lucrative jobs from product and process design to "out of space" ventures. In fact, the top paying Engineering jobs for this career pathway are  Aerospace Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Nuclear Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Computer Engineers, Petroleum Engineers, and more.  As an Engineering major, you can expect to develop a sound mathematics and science background and transfer so you can complete your four-year degree (or higher) at a 4-year college or university.

Our Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate and Science (AS) two-year degrees range from 60 to 64 transferable credits.  That means that once you graduate from Lawson State, you will be able to enter your four-year college of choice as a junior and secure a 4-year degree. To  increase your earning power, many Engineering students continue their education and get their Masters degrees and doctorate degrees in the select majors, so the higher you climb...the higher your potential for increased earnings in the workplace.

All Engineering concentrations are backed and protected by Alabama Transfers (Learn More).
