Machine Tool Technology

The Machine Tool Technology program is a study of the process of using manual machine tools to manufacture useful products and parts. Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining is a method for automating control of machine tools through the use of software embedded in a microcomputer attached to the tool. Students in the program gain experience in the operation of a variety of machine tools such as drill presses, grinders, lathes, milling machines, and CNC machines. It is recommended that students complete the Machine Tool Technology Short Certificate program prior to enrolling in the CNC program.

Benefits of Choosing Macnine Tool

The demand for Machine Tool and CNC machine technicians is high, still growing, and the career opportunities are great.  The increasing reliance on machining provides stability.  Even amidst a pandemic that challenged industrial companies due to global supply chain disruptions, the manufacturing industry remained solid.

When I got out of the military, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do.  I looked into the Machine Tool Technology program at Lawson State and was impressed with everything the instructor told me.  I really enjoy my classes, and three companies have visited the program and talked with me about open positions.  The on-on-one help that I get from my instructor makes me confident that I can be successful in this field.
