Dual Enrollment

As a high school student, you can get ahead by enrolling in our Dual Enrollment or Accelerated High School program. Dual Enrollment students are high school students taking courses at Lawson State to earn college credit while they complete high school. Accelerated High School students who is earning college credit while still in high school.

Accelerated High School Student: A secondary education student who is earning college credit while still in secondary school.

  1. Students must have completed the 10th grade (11th & 12th grade only). Once a student graduates' high school, he or she is no longer eligible.
  2. Students must have a minimum cumulative (unweighted) high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. A current and official copy of applicant high school transcript must be submitted to the admission office. 
  3. Accelerated High School Eligibility Form: Must be completed and submitted to the admissions office.
  4. Conditionally admitted Accelerated High School students cannot register for class, until their high school transcript and student eligibility form is received and processed by the admissions office.
  5. In-eligible for ACCS Dual Enrollment Grant Funding

Dual Enrollment Student: A secondary education student who is earning college credit while still in secondary school. Dual enrollment credit may be applied toward a high school diploma.

  1. Students must be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th.  Rising 10th graders are eligible to participate in Dual Enrollment courses the semester following the completion of the 9th grade. Once a student graduates' high school, he or she is no longer eligible for the Dual Enrollment program. Rising freshmen are NOT eligible for Dual Enrollment.  Students must be enrolled as sophomores in high school to begin eligibility for this program.
  2. Students must have a minimum cumulative (unweighted) high school grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. A current and official copy of applicant high school transcript must be submitted to the admission office.
  3. Dual Enrollment Eligibility Form: Form must be completed prior to class registration. 
  4. Conditionally admitted Dual Enrollment students cannot register for class, until their high school transcript and student eligibility form is received and processed by the admissions office.
  5. Former LSCC Dual Enrollment students who wish to attend LSCC after high school graduation, will need to re-apply as first-time freshman upon graduation from high school.

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSIONS

Yes! Some programs and courses may qualify for a tuition waiver under the Alabama Community College System Dual Enrollment Scholarship. Talk with an Enrollment Specialist about enrolling in one of our grant-funded programs. Not all programs are eligible for grants, so make sure you check that your program qualifies.

Dual Enrollment Scholarship Spring 2024 

  • Blackboard: Blackboard is the college's learning management system. Course content including the syllabi, book information, assignments, and more is provided via Blackboard. Failure to log in to Blackboard can cause you to fall behind in your classes and/or fail a class altogether. 
  • LSCC Email: All communication with Lawson State (LSCC) is conducted via your Lawson State email account. Dual Enrollment students are expected to read LSCC emails. Please note that faculty members will also communicate with you via LSCC email. Make sure you check this email regularly.
  • MyLawson: MyLawson is the main student page that houses your personal information at the college including your schedule, grades, transcript, and more. 
  • Degree Works: Degree Works software offers students an easy-to-follow map that allows students and advisors to audit and plan course progression and degree completion.
  • Cougar Alert: Cougar Alert is Lawson State's Emergency Notification System. You must register for Cougar Alert to receive messages related to emergencies on campus, school closings, and more. Register today.
Yes, some of our classes are offered online or virtually. However, in-person classes are strongly recommended for high school students. Reach out to an Enrollment Specialist for more information.
