PREREQUISITE: As required by program. This course includes theory and application in basic life support. Emphasis is placed on the areas of single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) of the adult, two-rescuer CPR, managing obstructed airways, and infant and child CPR. Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to recognize situations that require CPR and effectively implement CPR.

This course is designed to assist the student in developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be successful in health-related disciplines. Content focuses on development and use of effective study and test-taking skills, assertiveness training, stress management, values clarification, diversity, ethical-legal concepts, problem-solving and communication skills. Upon completion of this course, the student will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to be successful in the student role.

This course introduces the student to basic pharmacological agents common to all disciplines in the health sciences. Emphasis is placed on drug classifications and knowledge and skills required for safe, effective administration of select drugs. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to recognize indications and contraindications of pharmacological agents, to categorize drugs, to calculate dosages accurately, and to demonstrate safe drug administration techniques.

This course is an introduction to basic pharmacology. Content includes classifications, indications, contraindications, desired effects, and side effects of medications used during diagnostic procedures and the prevention and treatment of common illnesses.
