2016-2017 LAWSON STATE LADY COUGARS
VOLLEYBALL

The Lady Cougars are looking to return strong for the 2016 Volleyball Season

The Lawson State Volleyball team is excited to continue to build on their improved season in 2015.  They finished 12-15 and missed going to the Conference Playoffs by 1 deciding set.  The Lady Cougars will have all eight sophomores returning for this 2016 season as well.  Two of the sophomores, Nikki Moss and Keara Scott, led the team in kills and finished 4th and 5th in the conference for kills per match.  Also, returning are starters Lillie Whitaker(S), Brandi Warren(OH), Embrey Johnson(L) and the strong leadership from Joria Steger(OH/DS), LaQuasia Looney(DS/L) and Sam Pinion(RH).

Coach Aubrey Wiley and Coach Maegan Lo Porto worked hard in the off season to recruiting and landed 6 top players to complete their 2016 roster.  Freshman coming in have not only a lot of talent on the court, but strength in the classroom as well.  These players include: Artasia Debose, Jasmine Wright, Latrice Reynolds, Kiara Mayo, Celeste Hall and Eshae’ Aska.

Artasia Debose is an Outside Hitter from Helena High School.  Jasmine Wright is a Rightside Hitter from Bessemer Academy.  Latrice Reynolds is a Middle Blocker from Jonesboro High School in Georgia.  Kiara Mayo is a Middle Hitter from Ramsey High School.  Celeste Hall is a Defensive Specialist/Libero from Germantown High School in Tennessee.  And finally, Eshae’ Aska is a Setter from Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

The Lady Cougars have a tough schedule this season and start it off on Saturday August 27th as they play in the Southern Union Community College tournament in Wadley, AL.  Their first home match will be on Wednesday night, August 21st at 6pm against Wallace Hanceville.  Please come out and support your Lady Cougar Volleyball Team this season!
