The Culinary Arts program is designed to provide the training and development of skills for students to become competent in the field of Culinary Arts, including advanced food preparation, food design, styling and premier services.
The Hospitality Services Management program is designed to produce management personnel for the Hospitality Industry, including travel, tourism and event planning.
Lawson State will be offering both a Long Certificate and an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is designed to prepare individuals desiring to expand their career in Emergency Medical Services with the ability to initiate intravenous therapy and limited pharmacology. This course qualifies students completing this program to work or volunteer as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) for a fire department, ambulance services or in private industry. Students successfully completing the AEMT courses will be eligible for consideration to take a National Registry of EMT’s Examination, which is used by the State of Alabama Department of Public Health to grant EMT licensure.
This program is designed to prepare individuals to properly collect quality blood samples from patients and communicate with the healthcare team.
Clinical externships will be scheduled after course completion. Clinical will be held at available times during agency’s business hours and may be different from designated course times.
The Pharmacy Technician Assistant program (which is housed in Lawson's Corporate College) prepares individuals to assist Pharmacists in a variety of settings to include the institutional and retail pharmacies. Students will learn to interpret, label, file and prepare prescriptions. Students will also learn inventory management and understand the technician’s role in community and hospital pharmacy. This program is a two semester program beginning each fall semester annually.
Homeland Security Courses can provide more flexibility to Criminal justice majors and make them more marketable in the law enforcement arena. Post-9/11 has greatly increase ones awareness to security risk around the world. These courses can also provide current law enforcement officers with additional skills that can improve their job status and pay scale.
Recreation core curriculum provides PE majors with a broad range of academic opportunities in several fields of specialization. These majors are exposed to the parks and recreation industry teaching them how to provide programming activities. Recreation majors can also choose fields such as therapeutic recreation that will prepare students to design activities for people with physical and or mental disabilities.
